Exercise isn’t just good for your health, it’s also great for getting a good night’s sleep and for fighting off the dreaded insomnia! A study done by Kelly Glazer Baron, a clinical psychologist, said that “…older women suffering from insomnia said their sleep improved from poor to good when they exercised. They had more energy and were less depressed.” While it may seem like a small success, exercise is preferable to the alternative: pills (LaMotte).
Using pills to induce sleep had several negative effects such as the risk of infections, the eventual lack of effectiveness, and for the elderly, there is the risk of falling and/or dementia (LaMotte).
What are some other benefits of using exercise over a pill? It’s healthier and less expensive! The body also doesn’t build up an immunity to its effects the same way it would with a pill. The next time you have trouble sleeping, just remember, exercise could be the answer! Just remember not to do it too close to bed 😉
Sweet dreams, and remember, Quit counting sheep…Sleep with a Wolf!
