Developing a Back to School Sleep Routine – 5 Tips to Ease the Transition

For most students, school breaks are the time to ditch their sleep schedule. It’s the time when most children are allowed to stay up late and sleep in longer. While it’s all fun during the vacations, the new sleep routine becomes troublesome when going back to school.

Whether you’re a student or the parent of a school going child, the following tips can help to transition back into the old sleep routine:

1.      Start Early

When working to fix your child’s sleep schedule, it’s important to start about 10 to 15 days early. It allows you to gradually bring them back to their original sleep schedule so it doesn’t overwhelm them.

Make your child go to bed and wake up 15 minutes earlier every day. This will help them develop and adjust to a healthy sleep routine before school starts.

2.      Limit Screen Time at Night

Your kid may have developed the habit of falling asleep while watching their favorite movie. But, it’s time to break that habit when developing a back-to-school sleep routine. Using screens at bedtime has been scientifically proven to make it harder to fall asleep.

Turn off all electronic and mobile devices at least an hour before bedtime.

3.     Have Early Dinners

Having big meals close to bedtime can make it harder to fall asleep. It can also cause indigestion and lead to weight gain in the long run. Therefore, it’s best to have early dinners and avoid eating heavy foods close to bedtime; light snacks are fine, though.

4.     Develop a Relaxing Bedtime Routine

Relaxing bedtime routines can help wind down and make falling asleep easier. It can include taking a shower, having a warm drink, hearing a bedtime story, or reading a book. Establish a bedtime routine according to your child’s personality and preferences to help them calm down and prepare for sleep.

5.      Set Up a Comfortable Sleeping Environment

A sleep-inducing environment can make a world of difference. It cannot only help children (also applies to adults) fall asleep quickly but also helps ensure quality sleep. Limit light, cut out the noise, maintain a comfortable temperature, and provide a good-quality comfortable mattress to make sure your child sleeps well through the night.

While you have to take care of other things, we have got your need for a comfortable mattress covered. At Wolf Mattress, we offer a range of high-quality mattresses to meet your family’s needs. Please take a look at our mattresses and choose one for your child’s room.

The Sum Up

Getting adequate sleep is vital to your child’s health and performance in school. Make sure they stay at the top in both areas by helping them develop a healthy back-to-school sleep routine.
