Adjusting to Daylight Saving Time

March tenth begins Daylight Saving Time here in Indiana. As can be expected, this change in time causes a stir each year as the clocks are set forward an hour and we all lose sleep. Aside from the usual complaints, there are the silent ones as our bodies internal clocks are disrupted by the abrupt shift. The first thing that can be affected is the body’s production of sleep-inducing melatonin. Namely, this effect would influence when and how much is released.

How can you keep this one-hour shift from affecting on your personal health and sleep habits? The best cure is to start going to bed earlier and rising earlier a week before the shift. That means going to bed 10 minutes early each day and rising ten minutes earlier as well. It may seem insignificant, but this gradual shift can mean the difference between needing more caffeine in the mornings, feeling drowsy throughout the day, difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep, and so on.

Whatever your pre-sleep habit may be, a cup of chamomile tea, reading a book, relaxing music, or a comfortable Wolf mattress; we hope it brings you success during the Daylight Saving Time shift.
