6 Tips for Getting Rid of Anxiety from Your Bedtime Routine

Have you found that your anxiety has been getting the best of you lately? Have you noticed a decline in your concentration and mood? Sleeping can often help with anxiety, but have you found that when you try going to bed early, it results in a restless night?

We understand how frustrating it can be. It’s like your anxiety has a mind of its own, kicking in right before bed, keeping you awake at night. Everyday stress in your life doesn’t help and can result in a disrupted bedtime routine.

What can you do to eliminate anxiety and sleep peacefully at night?

Here are a few things we think can help you become anxiety-free at bedtime:

1.     Keep a Regular Sleep Schedule

It’s the oldest trick in the book, but it’s the most effective! Keeping a regular and unbroken sleep routine can help eliminate several problems at once. Going to bed at the same time every day can help your body fall asleep faster, meaning your mind doesn’t have the time to go over and over and over the things that cause you stress and anxiety. Having an alarm to wake you at the same time every day can help you wake up fully refreshed as your body accepts the routine and wakes itself up. You may even find yourself not needing a cup of coffee in the morning!

Having an irregular sleep schedule can leave your body guessing. This can lead to restless nights as it wakes up at irregular times because it doesn’t know when you want up. By forming consistent habits, you can train the body to sleep the full night away, leaving you feeling more alert and rested the next day. And who doesn’t feel less stressed when they feel they can tackle the day?

2.     Change Your Mattress

Old or bad mattresses can be the number one culprit to a sleepless night. A reliable mattress is made from non-toxic and hypoallergenic materials like our mattresses. Wolf Corporation provides comfortable mattresses with all the qualities that’ll put you asleep. You need to choose the right level of firmness by considering the following factors:

  • Your sleeping position
  • Your body weight
  • Your sleeping partner
  • Your existing pains and aches such as a bad back

We offer a wide variety of mattresses. You can look through our collection to find the right mattress for you.

3.     De-Clutter Your Bedroom

Messy bedrooms can affect sleep. A messy sleeping space can be distracting. It’s the last thing you see before bed, and it can lead to thoughts of what to do and what needs done and is there time? And now you’re feeling anxious just thinking about it, aren’t you? By putting everything in the room in its proper place, the last thing you see is organized. Those thoughts of what needs done won’t come as easily when there isn’t a visual reminder every day. A tidy room can help your brain focus on what’s really important at night – a good night’s rest.

4.     Reduce Your Caffeine Intake

Caffeine acts as a stimulant and works well for waking yourself up. Caffeine has a shelf life of 4-6 hours. By drinking caffeine four to six hours before bed, you’re preventing your brain from sleeping and the tossing and turning commences. Caffeine can completely destroy whatever good habits you have as it works against your attempts to pass out properly.

5.     Take a Warm Bath to Relax

For some, a warm bath in the evening can help them to relax. Some find warm or cool showers helpful. It’s best to find what works for you as you work to reduce your anxiety by fighting it with a peaceful activity. Some find the use of bath salts and bubbles to be soothing. Even adding different smells can help.

6.     Meditate Before Bedtime

The main thing to avoid before bed, besides caffeine or alcohol, is strenuous activities. That can include exercise for the body or the mind. That’s right, reading before bed (particularly in bed) can train your mind to stay awake. Your brain needs time before bed to process the day’s information. By reading, watching TV, or doing strenuous exercise, you’re training your body to stay up longer, which in turns keeps you from passing out in time to avoid anxiety causing thoughts. We also recommend putting all technology away before you doze off into dreamland because technology can hinder sleep.

One way to combat this is through meditation. It doesn’t work for everyone, but if nothing else above works, it could be worth a try.

While you work on doing everything else to get rid of your anxiety, we can help you with the second one. You can invest in a top-quality mattress from Wolf Mattress.
